Small Steps To Reach Great Heights: Jagrat’s Secret Code Prompt For Excellence

Jagrat Maheshwari

Delivery Manager

Jagrat is referred to as the AppExchange genius at Cyntexa. He’s witty, dependable, diligent, and ambitious, to say the least. He can be your dearest friend and, the very next moment, the toughest task master you can think of. This is his story of achieving great heights in such a short period. Witness his impeccable journey from being a basic programmer to a delivery manager while successfully managing all his responsibilities.

Jagrat originally hails from Kanpur, where he was born and brought up. He had a reasonably normal childhood, where, growing up, he was pampered by his grandparents and had banter with his elder siblings at home. Since childhood, he had been an average student who wouldn’t have scored the highest marks in the classroom or been amongst the ones who were called out for poor grades. Growing up, he started developing a keen interest in mathematics, as the subject was highly based on logic, and he enjoyed solving challenging and complex problems. This tendency of Jagrat to take complicated matters into his own hands started developing a bring-it-on attitude within him, which he didn’t know would be a game changer for him in the coming years.

As soon as high school was over, he went ahead with preparation for his engineering college exam. While he took a drop year, he shifted to Mumbai with his family. He was trying to secure a college then and there in Mumbai, but the urge to be independent led him to explore other cities as well. After a series of explorations, he finally chose Jaipur to get a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Remembering his college days, he says, “Undoubtedly, my college life was fun and very memorable. However, there were days when I used to miss being at home with my family, and to cope up with the feeling of homesickness was sometimes extremely difficult.”Jagrat enjoyed his college life thoroughly, he made innumerable memories with his friends, studied only to get through the exams, and focused more on learning core programming than just mugging up. By the time his college ended, Jagrat had made some really good bonds with his college batchmates.

Later, when his course was on the verge of completion, many companies started pouring in to hire students, and soon Jagrat started noticing a pattern in his placement rounds, that he somewhere lacked the skills to tactfully convey and present himself in the interviews. Along with that, he also had difficulty clearing the qualifying quantitative ability tests. This shortcoming of his left him disappointed and without any college placements. Disheartened, Jagrat had to go back to Mumbai with the baggage of not being able to get a job. Since the day he arrived back, he started looking for suitable job options, irrespective of his engineering background. Jagrat even lost count of the interviews he gave and the rejections he faced at that time. It was his father who was his rock all this while and who kept him motivated to keep trying one more time. This period continued for a good 6 months when Jagrat was worried and desperate to get a job.

He finally took up the very next job that came his way. It was the job of a technical trainer, where he had to visit multiple colleges and give seminars and demonstrations regarding upcoming technologies and advancements. Initially, Jagrat thought this was fascinating, but it became too much of a stagnant hassle for him. He had to constantly move and travel to different locations for seminars. Plus, he had to repeat the same course lectures and speeches for a different set of students each time. Things became mundane one after the other, which became frustrating for him after a point of time. Eventually, Jagrat decided to quit his job! The decision was tough as he would now have to be circling in the interview rounds again and go through rejections and acceptance cycles, but he had to take it.

This time, when he was giving interviews, he knew that he had to find a job in his field and not go too far from the coding-programming departments. When all this was happening, he was contacted by one of his seniors at college, Vaibhav Vyas; he is one of the founding members of Cyntexa, which was a mere startup back then. Vaibhav was looking for determined and reliable developers to join Cyntexa. Since he knew Vaibhav and had heard about Shrey and his YouTube channel, Salesforce Hulk, he decided to at least give the interview a shot.

On the day of his interview at Cyntexa, Jagrat recalls that he was nervous as he had not brushed up much of his technical concepts, which led to a colossal grilling interview session with Vishwajeet Srivastava, CTO at Cyntexa. While sitting through the interview and even after that, Jagrat had a feeling that this time, too, the only thing he would be left with would be disappointment. However, he got an acceptance call from Cyntexa’s end, which was different from what he thought. Still, as Cyntexa was a budding startup at that time, the pay Jagrat was being offered was way less than he expected; on top of that, he had to relocate to Jaipur, manage work and training hours, and simultaneously look after the expenses on his own. When Jagrat discussed it with his family members, they were not convinced by his idea of relocating to Jaipur, too, with relatively lesser pay than what he was getting there in Mumbai.

Jagrat understood that their concerns were genuine, but he assured his family that he would get immense exposure to the Salesforce ecosystem and that he could multiply his learning to a whole new level under the guidance of the correct mentors.

Jagrat assured his family and joined Cyntexa. He believes his initial days were filled with turmoil, hard work, and learning. He used to come to the office sharp at 7:30 AM, even on chilly winter mornings, for his training sessions conducted by Shrey himself. Later, the day was followed by office hours, assignments, work, and lots of learning. Jagrat even remembers when he used to leave the office at 11 pm, travel from local mini buses, have cash crunches while managing everything independently, and still making sure to come for his training sessions without fail.

As they say, hard work pays off, and it did for him as well; within just a few months of joining, he was aligned with his first client project while his training was still undergoing. He used to sit for long hours and devote all his time to proving himself, learning new things, and making his mark. Though it wasn’t all smooth sailing for him, he did make mistakes. He remembers his first client interaction as a complete mess. Jagrat went numb while interacting with the client, he couldn’t even reply with even one single answer. And this was just the beginning of some really life-changing events in his life that were going to happen soon. He also remembered the time when he had made a big blunder that could have tarnished Cyntexa’s reputation for a very long time when he was dealing with his first client project. This was somewhat followed by a consecutive series of events and faults that made him introspect on his failing communication skills and confidence, which required much work.

Since then, Jagrat had sooner or later started working on his shortcomings. He paid attention to detail in his work, along with his communication and client-handling skills. Thereon, he kept on proving himself and reinventing himself while climbing every level at Cyntexa. He has never been one of the people who are afraid to take risks and face their consequences, good or bad, whatsoever. For him, be it mentoring the new batch of trainees with sheer determination or venturing into launching a completely homegrown app, ChargeOn, on AppExchange, he took the challenge with might and the thought that there are only two possibilities: either you’ll succeed or learn something new.

Jagrat was introduced to the world of AppExchange while working on several client projects; from there, it clicked for him to create Cyntexa’s own app that could be put up on this platform. Since that day, Jagrat has pitched several ideas, worked on various permutations-combinations, debugged several technical issues, and relentlessly kept working towards his goal of creating a homegrown application. After meticulous efforts of close to two years, ChargeOn came into the bigger picture.

Jagrat mentioned that once the application was built, the next big task was to get it listed on the AppExchange platform. This was the actual testing time for him as he had put in a lot of effort and time towards this project and if it didn’t get listed, everything could have just come downhill crashing! Jagrat recalls sitting up till 1 AM in the morning in order to get the application successfully listed on the platform. The stakes were really high and everyone had their fingers crossed with mixed emotions. And in some early hours of the next day after passing several quality tests the app was finally listed on the platform. That moment Jagrat didn’t even have words to describe his feelings and emotions. His app was live and listed, his efforts and hard work have paid off! That day, Jagrat felt extremely delighted that he could create something so magnificent and innovative. Thereon, Jagrat never had missed to make a mark at Cyntexa.

Jagrat was making great progress at Cyntexa and achieving things he never thought he could. However, he was nervous about managing a larger team efficiently. In his early days, Jagrat had handled a team before, but as the team grew, he was given more responsibilities, and he felt that his leadership style needed improvement. He was unsure whether his team members would perceive him as too blunt, a harsh taskmaster, or someone they could not communicate with. However, with time and consistent effort to improve his communication style and mentoring skills, Jagrat’s doubts gradually disappeared. He frequently interacted, collaborated, and motivated his team members to work hard and sincerely.

He always guide his team to work hard in the initial stages of career. Jagrat himself resonates with that idea, that supposedly your 20s are the perfect time to explore new things and career at minimal risk. Talking about risks, Jagrat had always been the risk taker with a remarkable Go-Getter attitude. As a partner at Cyntexa for the third time, he confidently headed multiple projects and ensured their successful delivery, leaving no room for errors. This was when Jagrat took the initiative to ask for the position of Delivery Manager and was offered the position. The stakes were high, and so were Jagrat’s ambitions to make a mark.

Jagrat’s professional life had been on the rise, but when he got married, his personal life took on a new dimension. He found himself struggling with the challenge of juggling his individual commitments and professional responsibilities. In the initial days of his marriage, Jagrat shared the difficulties he faced in finding a balance that worked for both aspects of his life. When Jagrat was feeling saddened and frustrated, he decided to have an honest conversation with his partner. They talked about Jagrat’s future aspirations and dreams that he wanted to fulfill. He explained that he needed to use all his energy and potential in his twenties to achieve them. He also emphasized that he wouldn’t be able to achieve them without his partner’s support. His partner listened with an open mind and understood that Jagrat was very ambitious about growing in life. So, they decided to stand by each other and support each other throughout the process.

At a young age, Jagrat achieved so much success in his professional career because he persistently worked hard, paid attention to detail while learning things, trusted the process, and prioritized his ambition over everything else. Upon answering the question, about what he wants to tell the younger people joining the corporates, he said, “At times, you would see yourself failing at a lot of things, but that is the only time you have to believe in yourself the hardest. And don’t be afraid of the consequences because even if you don’t do anything, there will be a consequence, so why not just try?”
